Shelter Dogs ‘Freak Out’ When Choosing Their Own Christmas Present

Christmas is the season when individuals awaken to the gift of giving, to the need to share details with those we feel deserve it. That’s why the Canines Trust Ireland Relocation Centre, a Dublin-based animal sanctuary, made sure that no homeless dogs went without a Christmas gift.

Hundreds of toys were donated to the shelter in December, but instead of giving each dog a Christmas present, the staff was allowed to choose their favorite.

On Facebook, the shelter stated:

“This year, we gathered gift donations from our shelter’s employees and partners, lined them up, and let the dogs at our Relocation Center choose their own Christmas present.”

The task force at the shelter started by gathering all of the toys in one room and putting them up on the floor, then allowing each dog to enter the room and select their own Christmas present.

The toys had many qualities, such being spherical, squishy, loud, and bigger.

Some dogs instantly selected their toy and ran around the room with it, while others took a little longer to decide, even combing through all of the toys to figure out which one was the best match.

Another dog called Max chose to use the try all approach, going through each toy until he found his favorite Christmas present.

Kenneth discovered the squeak in his toy and went around the room making all kinds of noises, while Tiny, a beautiful chihuahua, discovered a little green bone that was just right for him.

Buddy was rushing around the room hunting for a noisy toy, which he eventually discovered and swallowed as he ran.

Esme, a happy puppy, discovered her ideal Christmas present instantly, leaping onto the sofa and tossing her new toy into the air.
