All animals require and deserve to be loved; but, many uncaring individuals are capable of discarding them on the street with no regard for their welfare. One of the most difficult obstacles for these homeless animals is getting food and water, but the police in Tacna, Peru, have demonstrated that compassion still exists by offering a solution to this problem by installing water dispensers and meals.
The first station was erected in October 2017 and the food dispensers are designed like long tubes. When the pups are thirsty and hungry, they come to them, where they may feed without fear of being poisoned.
This fantastic effort is also being carried out in one of the police stations in Chiclayo’s Monsef area.
The nice gesture was documented on the Peruvian National Police’s official Facebook page:
«We applaud our workers at the Monsef police station for their outstanding initiative. That he thought it was necessary to build a food dispenser for stray dogs who come to our premises.
The Peruvian National Police has showed a strong interest in animal welfare and has issued a challenge on social media:
«Collaborate with your neighbors to set up a water and food dispenser for the dogs that need it the most. Do you agree with me? #YoMeSumo » is a hashtag created by YoMeSumo.
The outpouring of support for this act has been overwhelming. One of the participants said:
Wow, it was a fantastic initiative. We need more humans, therefore consider the needs of the animals as well. And it is hoped that this model would be followed across Peru. Because some people abandon them or abuse them, leaving them vulnerable.
On the other side, government estimates from 2017 suggest that there are about a million abandoned dogs in Lima, some of them have sun-exposed wounds.
As a result, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) held a campaign to vaccinate companion animals and report on their care on World Day to Fight Canine Rabies. The Minsa’s objective for this year is to vaccinate three million dogs.
