In His Backyard, A Guy Constructs An Entire Tiny Restaurant For Animals

Most restaurants now only offer takeout and delivery, but there is still one that offers table service to hungry customers.

James Vreeland is an animal lover who has always left food in feeders for the squirrels and birds who live near his Detroit house.

However, he recently decided to take that thoughtful gesture a step further by providing them with a more luxury setting in which to enjoy their meals.

He made numerous small benches in his spare time and set them in his yard with an attractive entrance.

He gave the new business a fancy name: Maison du Noix, which means “Nut House” in French.

“We’ve been serving a seed medley as an appetizer, followed by full-shelled peanuts, house-cut bread sticks, and a counter-softened apple dessert,” Vreeland told The Dodo.

Customers flocked in droves to eat the complimentary food Vreeland had laid out for them, which was unsurprising considering the delicious spread.

“It’s been a hit with the squirrels and blue jays,” Vreeland said.

Animals aren’t the only ones who enjoy the nature café, despite its name. It’s also been a feast for the eyes for Vreeland, his neighbors, and those following a livestream of the café online.

Vreeland said, “The human response has been really great, with people stopping all the time to grab a photo or watch the frenzy.”

The business at Maison du Noix is thriving, and while Vreeland isn’t exactly making a profit, knowing that his furry and feathered customers are happy and well fed is enough for him.
