At The Funeral For His Best Friend, A Horse Says His Last Goodbyes
Wagner Figueiredo de Lima and his beloved horse, Sereno, were inseparable in real life. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short recently.
Lima, 34, passed away earlier this week as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident near his home in Paraiba, Brazil, a terrible loss for everyone who knew him, including his closest buddy.
Hundreds of family members and friends came on Tuesday for Lima’s funeral procession before he was laid to rest. Considering how much his horse mattered to Lima, his sibling Wando felt it was only right that Sereno be present as well.
But no one could have predicted what occurred next.
Lima’s funeral procession drew hundreds of family members and friends on Tuesday before he was laid to rest. Because Sereno was so important to Lima, his sister Wando thought it was only appropriate that he be there as well.
What happened next, however, no one could have predicted.
Sereno then knelt down and rested on the coffin.
Wando told Globo News, “This horse was everything to him.” “It was as though the horse was aware of what was going on and wanted to bid farewell.”
Sereno then joined the other mourners in escorting Lima to his final burial place.
Sereno was clearly upset: “All the way to the grave, he would moan and pound with his hooves on the ground,” Wando said to the TV station.
We may never know for sure how closely animals’ feelings match our own, but when grieving the death of a loved one, the distinction between the two can easily be forgotten.
Sereno, fortunately, will not have to go through the grieving process alone.
Wando has subsequently adopted his late brother’s horse, guaranteeing that Lima’s legacy of love for Sereno will be carried on in his new home for many years to come.
