Meet the Ili Pika, the most adorable mammal you’ve never heard of.
This beautiful species is one of the world’s rarest and most endangered creatures, having been seen for the first time in 20 years.
Their population has declined by nearly 70% since 1983, when they were first found in China’s Tianshan mountains.
They are most known for their resemblance to a teddy bear and their connection to a family favorite, the rabbit.
The environmentalist who found them, Li Weidong, told CNN: “These creatures are so uncommon that experts know very little about them.”
“I found the species and saw it dwindle in numbers. I’ll feel terrible if it becomes extinct right in front of my eyes.”
