No One Wants To Adopt This Dog And Shelter Staff Don’t Understand Why

Bear, a gorgeous dog who has been waiting in the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) shelter for approximately three years after his rescuers discovered him on the streets of Flint, Michigan, is quite upset that no one wants to adopt him.

Director of DAWG Kelley LaBonty stated to The Dodo:

He was terribly malnourished and around 7 months old. After some time in foster care, his caregiver was no longer able to care for him.

All this time, prospective adoptive parents have abruptly changed their minds.

Kelley declared:

“We’ve brought him to several adoption events throughout the years, and he just consistently gets ignored. Bear has a great rapport with people. He adores both men and women and children. He is quite lively and enjoys being held and having his belly scratched. He is capable of responding to simple orders.

The main issue with Bear is that, while having a kind disposition, he has trouble getting along with other animals.

Kelley declared:

“It is challenging to find him a home without other pets, but that is our desire. A woman who had driven an hour and a half to see him expressed her opinion that Bear would be a wonderful addition to her family. And it was a really nice house for him because it was in the suburbs, had a fenced-in yard, and belonged to a family with kids. It was flawless.

However, things didn’t go as planned when DAWS volunteers brought the dog to his new family, and Bear became quite unhappy.

Kelley declared:

“The young people decided they didn’t want it. They preferred a different canine. Bear wasn’t keen on getting back in the car and driving home.”

Even yet, the volunteers wouldn’t let Bear go, transporting him to a Michigan Empty the Shelter event hosted by the Bissell Pet Foundation. Sadly, while all the animals were adopted that day, Bear was not.

The dog in the kennel was captured on camera by Kelley. He’s depressed at the kennel, where most dogs find homes, but he’s still here after more than two years, so he simply lies on his bed with his head down. “It went viral since it’s such a terrible photo,” the caption reads.
