George HW Bush’s Faithful Service Dog Stayed By His Side Until The End
Former US President George H.W. Bush’s devoted service dog, Sully H.W. Bush, passed away on Friday at the age of 94. The labrador, who stayed steadfastly by his father’s side, is seen in a poignant social media post lying next to his coffin, protecting him just like he did in life.
Along with the photograph, Bush spokesperson Jim McGrath wrote the following:
“Mission accomplished”.
In response, Jeb Bush, the late president’s son, added:
“The watch is with Sully.”
Sully will get ready to fly to Washington, DC, with the coffin, according to CNN, and then be moved to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to help veterans like Bush.
As soon as he saw Sully at his house, the former president posted on Twitter:
It gives us great pleasure to welcome ‘Sully,’ a gorgeous and well-mannered Labrador from @AmericasVetDogs, into our family. He is really appreciative, especially considering his dedication to our veterans.
VetDogs of America’s president and chief executive, John Miller, said:
“The whole Bush family is in our thoughts and prayers at this trying time. Providing Sully, the service dog that has been by the President’s side for the past few months, was a true honor. Through his efforts to sign the Americans with Disabilities Act, President Bush earned the admiration of disabled individuals and his family as a great patriot and visionary. We will always be appreciative of his service to the American people.
This devoted dog was raised to look after Bush and given the name “Sully” in honor of Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, the pilot who saved the lives of 155 passengers and crew in 2009 by successfully making an aircraft landing in the Hudson River.
Sully has always been known for his high intellect, and as evidence of this, he is capable of carrying out a two-page long list of orders, including making phone calls and looking for things.
McGrath stated:
He can pretty much do everything, except for making you a cocktail, but don’t worry, he can go get you someone to make you a martini, as one guy stated.
