Shelters Ask People To Care For Animals For Adoption Amid Pandemic

We are in a challenging situation because of the COVID-19 epidemic, which requires us to stay at home. We are frightened and anxious because of all the rumors floating about, but we can also provide assistance at this time.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the need for help in caring for abandoned animals, shelters may temporarily lodge a suitable animal while it searches for a permanent home.

The outbreak of the coronavirus has put several shelters in a tough situation and they want our assistance. Many animals need particular treatment and might benefit greatly from temporary homes provided by volunteers.

“Right now, what we’re trying to do is get ready for the worst.”

Numerous American animal shelters have made requests for individuals to temporarily adopt a dog or cat. New York City, Phoenix, St. Louis, Memphis (Tennessee), Norfolk (Virginia), and Austin (Texas) are just a few of the places that need this assistance.

Due of the pandemic, several of these shelters had to close to the public and postpone activities. Other shelters will need to use same measures in the next days, which means fewer people are adopting pets and the number of abandoned animals is continuing to rise.

Foster homes are desperately needed by shelters since they would not be able to handle a staff shortage caused by the pandemic lockdown.

Rayvid further added:

The more animals there are, the worse the working conditions are for [workers] and the better for the animals. If it’s a large-scale shelter with few employees, it will put a lot higher strain on those individuals.

Although there is no proof that dogs and cats can contract COVID-19, there are safety measures and advice from medical professionals.

While more is known about the virus, it has been advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that patients with COVID-19 avoid contact with dogs and attempt to have someone else look after them if at all possible.
