This Adorable Duck Who Can’t Swim Was Rescued By A Sanctuary And Now Proudly Shows Off Her Giant Float In The Pond

Keeper is a cute young duck that was discovered roaming alone outside of a Walmart parking lot. Since the parking lot is far from any bodies of water, it is assumed that someone abandoned her there. Thankfully, a worried woman got in touch with Alyssa’s Animal Sanctuary.

When Keeper arrived to the shelter, staff members learned that she suffers from “pigeon fingers,” a condition that may have contributed to her abandonment. When they attempted to pair her with her fellow ducks, she rapidly realized that she had another issue that was hurting her.

Alyssa learned from independent study that Keeper was born lacking a gland that produces the oils that give ducks their waterproofing. That meant he wouldn’t let Keeper swim like the other ducks since she would drown, which was terribly upsetting to the bird’s new family.

Kepper couldn’t be near water since it was dangerous for her without her gland, which was gone from her upper paws.

Alyssa explains:

“We immediately realized that he was struggling to swim. Instead of dripping as it should have when her feathers became wet, the water saturated her instead, and she became drenched. She found it challenging to keep afloat and float as a result.

Kepper’s waiting for the other ducks at the edge of the pond saddened Alyssa, who wanted to assist him.

The lady continued:

“She, of course, has a kiddie pool that she can enter at any time and stand up in, but the ducks like to stay with their boys (her group/family), so every day she watched her family, I would go up to the pool and she would sit by herself at the bottom of the ramp until they went down,” the author explains.

She was desperate to find a method for Keeper to share with her family, so one day while she was browsing Walmart, she found a huge float in the style of a duck and had an outrageous thought.

Alyssa carried the enormous float home without sure whether her plan would succeed. She attempted to teach Keeper how to use it, and after some trial and error, the small duck eventually mastered the usage of the float.

Animated Alyssa narrates:

She quickly realized that she was in the water with her family and that she could spend the entire day there without becoming bored. She just became something we did on a regular basis; she enjoyed it when we picked her up and placed her in her floatie. She may have at last been able to rejoin her family, in my opinion.

The other ducks in the pond can now share with Keeper, and he has a means to interact with them without having to get into the water. Despite the size of the float, the ducks don’t seem to mind him, and they seem to enjoy his company.

Alyssa promises:

The other ducks have never attempted to board her float and haven’t even disturbed her when she is on it. She simply lies there all day and blows in the air around the pool, and it works flawlessly!
