Dog Is So Happy To Have A Family After 4 Years At The Shelter
Toretto, a 9-year-old dog, was found homeless four years ago and brought to the Humane Society of Imperial County in California. Potential adopters passed him up year after year, both because he was so old and because he was a pitbull.
He also had a nose condition, which complicated the adoption process, but there was always optimism that the perfect family would come along.
As a result of the new coronavirus’s problem, animal shelters and groups appealed to the public for help in finding foster and permanent homes for their animals.
Michael Levitt, a 52-year-old television producer, was eager to support the shelters in any way he could.
Today, Michael said:
“I discussed parenting with my partner, and he agreed that now, more than ever, we must stand up and do it.”
The Gray Muzzle Organization, a charity that helps old dogs in need, is a member of the producer. As a result, Michael understands the need of adoption and foster care in these difficult times.
Despite having two dogs of their own, the couple chose to help out by giving foster care for this much-needed puppy. They realized Toretto was the one after viewing a video of him on social media and knowing about his condition.
Toretto would be babysat by Michael and his boyfriend Marc Loren, who would also expose him to the family’s rescue dogs.
Michael explained to The Dodo:
“While my boyfriend Marc and I have always felt like a two-dog family (with our current guys, Trooper and Nelson), we knew we had to aid the dogs at our shelter during this time. It was witnessing Toretto in that movie, where his soul was still full of delight after being in a shelter for four years, that inspired us to step up and take him in.”
Everything went smoothly when Michael took Toretto home to meet his partner and family members’ pets.
Michael explained:
“Toretto is really gentle, affectionate, and lovely. He immediately blended in with our group. It was taken by our other two dogs. It’s almost as though they see that he requires our family’s assistance.”
The couple had just intended to give Toretto a foster home, but after meeting him, they fell in love and chose to give him a lifelong home. It took the two nearly an hour to figure out which Toretto would be a permanent member of the pack.
Michael explained:
“It took us about an hour after picking it up to determine that we wanted it to be a permanent member of our family.”
Despite the fact that medical examinations revealed Toretto had a sort of cancer in his nose, they decided to adopt him permanently.
Michael explained:
“Learning he had cancer increased our desire to assist him.”
Toretto had been looking for the ideal family for years when Michael walked in his life and offered him a place to relax. Now the pair is battling Toretto’s condition, with therapy set to begin shortly that will hopefully extend his life by a few years.
Toretto has only been with his new family for a short time, but he has quickly established himself as an indisputable member of the pack, with his parents and siblings adoring him.
