Orangutan Tries To Fight Off Excavator That’s Destroying His Home

The yellow Labrador was just another pitiful old guy in need of care to someone passing by on her delivery route.

The family of the 8-year-old dog had moved away, leaving him alone. With nowhere else to go, Larry the dog settled in the parking lot of a landscaping company across the street from his old house.

He lay in the ground for months, surviving on the kindness of passing truckers who would occasionally drop him food or drink.

When it became evident that the dog’s family would not return, the delivery guy created an Instagram account for him.

Larry’s tale was brought to the attention of Sasha Abelson, president of Love Leo Rescue, who reached out to local volunteers as a result of that seemingly little deed. “As soon as we saw [the posters], we yelled, ‘Just bring the dog to us,'” Abelson told The Dodo.

Larry was coaxed into a car by volunteers, who drove him two hours to Los Angeles.

Despite having had no regular access to food or water for months, the elderly dog’s tummy was swollen, and he was loosing patches of fur on his legs and having difficulties walking.

Despite his sadness, the dog wagged his tail for his rescuers.

Larry’s genuine personality began to emerge as his potbelly began to recede. Larry’s need to be among other dogs became apparent, and he was transferred to a canine day care facility where he could spend more time outside.

Larry began looking for his permanent home now that his health troubles were being handled with a monthly pill — but he still had a few obstacles to overcome. “Not everyone wants a puppy that comes with a price tag,” Abelson explained. “And he doesn’t enjoy being left alone, but he’s been abandoned, so we can’t blame him.”

Larry has gone to a forever home three times, only to be returned to the rescue three times due to a series of poor luck. “He’s been so resilient, doesn’t hold grudges, and still loves people even after they’ve disappointed him,” Abelson added. “He’s simply a thankful, happy dog.” “All he wants is for someone to look after him and be there for him.”

Larry knows precisely what he wants and isn’t scared to ask for it whenever he meets someone new. “He’ll physically push up against you and demand that you rub his head and scratch his ears,” Abelson added. “He’s not aggressive, but he’s a big cuddler.”
