Dog Tied To Pole Reaches Out Paw To The Cop Who’s Come To Save Him

Officer Angela Laurella got a report last week of two canines chained to poles on a dead-end street in Pompano, Florida.

There were no cameras in the neighborhood, so no one knew how long the dogs had been there or who had abandoned them. Officer Laurella, on the other hand, understood there was no time to spend with temperatures reaching 100 degrees outside.

She dashed over to discover a weak gray dog clinging to a post so tightly that he could scarcely move.

Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida, told The Dodo, “He was chained to a pole with a very short leash.” “He was gaunt, dehydrated, and every bone and rib protruded.”

To get pets, the dog, now called Liam, placed his paw in the officer’s hand and bent his head. “She just moved gently toward him and held out her hand, and he kind of cowered and gave her his paw, as if to say, ‘Please help me get out of here,'” Roman explained.

Officer Laurella saw that Liam had not had an easy life and required particular care, so she contacted the rescue 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida for assistance. Despite the fact that the rescue was overcrowded, Roman embraced Liam without hesitation.

After multiple vet appointments, Liam is now resting in Roman’s house, where the 17-pound pocket bulldog is gradually regaining strength — and eating better than he has in a long time.

“He’s getting so much love all the time,” Roman remarked. “He’s being fed on the hour, so his body grows acclimated to it… We have volunteers preparing batches of boiled chicken and rice, so he’s having a good time right now.”

While Liam still has a long journey ahead of him, including several vet appointments, he’s been a beacon of brightness since his rescue.

“He loves everyone, and this dog doesn’t have a cruel bone in his body,” Roman remarked. “That says it everything to me, because after everything he’s been through, he’s still so appreciative and forgiving.”

Liam is one of several animals in Florida that have lately been abandoned or surrendered by their owners.

With so many shelters at capacity, Roman hopes pet owners would seek assistance and services from shelters and rescues before concluding they can no longer care for their dogs. And Liam exemplifies how every dog deserves a second chance.
