Because Of Her Unusual Appearance, No One Wants To Adopt This Dog

When Meagan Hanley, the founder of the Massachusetts-based A Place for Ace rescue, first saw a photo of Kleo, she knew she had to have her. Kleo was on the verge of being euthanized in a shelter in San Antonio, Texas, and had previously been adopted and then returned. Hanley was concerned that she wouldn’t be adopted in time, partly due to her unusual appearance.

Kleo stands out from the crowd because she has a crooked face and an underbite. Hanley could see there was something unique about her right away, and Kleo was soon on her way to Massachusetts, where she is currently residing in a foster family in Boston.

Kleo adapted to her foster home swiftly and is currently enjoying life. Change doesn’t bother her after everything she’s gone through, and her foster mom is always astounded at what an amazing dog she is.

Kleo’s foster mother, Brianne Miers, told The Dodo, “Kleo makes the most of every day.” “She has such a zeal for life that I joke that it’s like she’s being blasted out of a cannon when I open her crate door in the morning.” She’s a whirlwind of activity who wants to go, go, go. She’s enthralled by all the various sights and smells she encounters, and she’s quite intelligent.”

Miers has fostered a number of dogs in the past, but none have been exactly like Kleo. She’s always amazed at how flexible she is, and Kleo doesn’t seem to notice any of her face peculiarities.

“She snorts a little when she’s enthusiastic, and her underbite makes her a little messy when she drinks water or eats a crunchy treat,” Miers explained. “Other than that, she’s a happy, healthy puppy!” Fortunately, she has no idea that she isn’t like any other dog. When we go by, I’ve seen people do a double look, but she simply keeps running along joyfully.”

Even while Kleo isn’t aware of her differences, others are, and it’s possible that this is what has prevented her from being adopted thus far.

“Kleo arrived on transport with a group of 20 other dogs, and they all found wonderful homes fast,” Miers added. “Unfortunately, she hasn’t gotten much attention.”

Kleo is a really unique dog that will make an excellent addition to one very fortunate household. She’d be best suited to a household with just older children, and she’s a little too exuberant to live with cats. She’s seeking for a family who enjoys being active, and she’d be a terrific jogging or hiking partner. She’s a clever dog that needs to be amused at home with toys, puzzles, bones, or another dog to play with.

Apart from that, all Kleo wants is love and acceptance. It’s been difficult to see all of the other dogs be adopted before Kleo, but her foster family is certain that the perfect home will find her.

“I think dogs like Kleo just need time to find the proper companion,” Miers remarked. “She’s not what most adopters are looking for when they start the process, so she’ll have to be someone special to want her, crooked face and all.” More significant than her appearance, the adopter must desire a dog with her high energy level and intellect, as well as the time to provide her with enough of exercise and cerebral stimulation. We’re confident that the ideal house is out there!”
