The Injured Swan Can’t Believe He’ll Be Reunited With His Long-Time Friend Whom He Missed For Years

The swan is without a doubt the most intriguing and graceful bird on the planet. Unfortunately, some humans are unable to appreciate an animal’s beauty and do unspeakable harm. The nesting season has just begun; over the winter, they mate and by the end of April, they have laid their eggs, which they will incubate for 32 to 45 days, while the female looks after the nest and the male keeps an eye out for predators.

Wendy Hermon, director of operations at Swan Support, conveyed the tragic news via social media from West Berkshire, where a swan was shot in the head while calmly nesting with her mate.

Wendy explained to The Dodo:

“Both swans were shot in a lake in Thatcham, Berkshire, when the female was sitting on her eggs.”

Five swans were shot with air guns, and one of these birds was injured in the head while caring for its eggs, prompting the local authorities to launch an inquiry.

They relocated the wounded swan’s eggs to the support center after ministering to it. The veterinarians extracted an 8mm bullet on the spot.

Fortunately, the swan survived the attack and recovered successfully; unfortunately, one of the five attacked Swans did not.

Wendy continued:

“The finest part of what we do is releasing the swans back into the wild once they’ve been treated; it’s incredibly fulfilling, especially when you see the reunion.”
