Kittens’ Mother Cat Runs 5 Times into Burning Building To Save Them

Scarlett and her five kittens were trapped in an abandoned garage in Brooklyn that was being used illegally as a drug house when the fire broke out. It was soon put out by the New York City Fire Department. When the fire was eventually put out, one of the firefighters on the site, David Giannelli, observed Scarlett bringing her kittens out of the garage one by one. Scarlett was seriously burned as a result of her several runs into the flames to save her babies. Her eyes were blistered shut, her ears and paws were burnt, and her coat was severely burned. Worse, she’d lost much of her facial hair to the flames.

The mother stroked each of her babies with her nose after eventually saving all of them, as the blisters on her eyes made it hard to see them at the moment. Scarlett allowed herself to pass out just as she was certain that all of her children were safe. Scarlett and her whole brood were transported to the North Shore Animal League’s veterinary facility in Port Washington, New York, where they were all treated.
